In the rolling hills of South Central Kentucky, nestled within 600 acres of picturesque landscape, lies Winding Creek Farms, the sheep oasis of Harry and Katie Frederick. Originally from New Mexico, this dynamic duo and their extended family embarked on a journey to create something uniquely their own in the heart of the Bluegrass State.

Inside the Sheep Operation

With 700 ewes grazing across their sprawling pastures, Winding Creek Farms is BAHH central. Specializing in Katahdin sheep, with a recent introduction of Ille de France, the Fredericks have honed their craft in accelerated lambing, ensuring a steady supply of healthy and robust lambs year-round.

While Harry and Katie primarily steer the ship, they’re never alone. Katie’s parents are integral to the operation, and Harry’s oldest daughter and her fiancé also call the farm home. Despite lacking a direct lineage in farming, the Frederick family’s roots run deep in the soil of hard work and determination.

For the Fredericks, farming isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life. They’ve wholeheartedly embraced the role of full-time sheep farmers, dedicating their days to nurturing their flock and ensuring their success. In addition to their wooly companions, the Fredericks also raise and train border collies, adding a uniqueness and exciting facet to their farm life.

Priorities in Pasture: Raising Lambs with Care

At Winding Creek Farms, the welfare of their flock takes precedence above all else. From ensuring the health and happiness of their lambs to fostering rapid growth and development, the Fredericks approach their work with unwavering dedication and a genuine passion for their craft.

Despite their relatively short tenure in the industry, the Fredericks are no strangers to innovation. Continuously seeking ways to enhance their operation, they’ve recently implemented renovations such as a new whelping shed and upgraded facilities for their lambing barn, setting the stage for continued growth.

For the Fredericks, success in farming hinges on a few simple yet fundamental principles: a relentless work ethic, a laser focus on producing live lambs for the market, and a willingness to explore new revenue streams. With these guiding principles in mind, they’re poised for a future filled with prosperity and abundance.

From humble beginnings on Instagram in 2017 to a significant presence of over 8,000 followers on TikTok, the Fredericks have embraced social media as a platform to share their farming journey with the world. With a blend of educational content and lighthearted moments from the farm, they aim to bridge the gap between consumers and agriculture while inspiring others to connect with Winding Creek Farms.

Herdwatch: Revolutionizing Livestock Management

Since adopting Herdwatch in November 2023, the Fredericks have experienced a transformation in their livestock management practices. The app has proven to be a game-changer, streamlining tasks such as recording treatments, tracking movements, and managing breeding programs.

From simplifying record-keeping to improving management decisions, Herdwatch has become an indispensable tool in the Frederick’s farming arsenal. With the unwavering support of the Herdwatch team, they’ve seamlessly integrated the app into their workflow, paving the way for increased efficiency and profitability.

As they continue to navigate the ever-changing landscape of modern agriculture, the Fredericks remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence. With their eyes set on the horizon and Herdwatch by their side, the future looks brighter than ever for Winding Creek Farms—a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and a little technological innovation.
